Solar charge controllers are an important component of any off grid solar system.
These controllers are able to regulate the voltage supply to the batteries from the solar array. They are also capable of reading the voltage of the battery banks so that once it reaches a predetermined maximum voltage, the controller will shut off or reduce the solar charge.
In our shop we offer the two types of solar charge controllers: pulse-width modulation (PWM) and maximum power point tracking (MPPT).
PWM controllers send out short controlling pulses and work best for smaller systems in places with strong and consistent solar radiation.
MPPT controllers are known for more effectively extracting solar power from solar arrays. MPPT controllers are able to maximize the power drawn from solar arrays by decoupling the solar array and battery voltages.
